The service event was endorsed by the 57th Presidential Inaugural Committee and DC Public Schools. Collectively, 500 Young Philanthropists gave 2,000 books to 2,000 to kids attending six DC Ward 8 schools where nearly 70% could not read proficiently. Additionally, volunteers gift-wrapped literacy supply kits, painted literacy murals, organized libraries, created audio books and wrote personal notes to children in the books they purchased for them. The school was hosted by: Capital Cause, White House Executive Office of the President and Young Democrats of America</span></p>

Malcolm X was led by National Urban League Young Professionals, Capital Cause and Young Professionals in Foreign Policy.</span></p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #008000;">The 2nd Annual Changemakers Reception raised awareness about the Young Philanthropist movement in the DC area, recognized Changemakers and celebrated Capital Cause 3rd Anniversary. This SOLD OUT event convened 250 Young Philanthropists from DC, VA and MD for a night designed to applaud them for their efforts to give back their time, talent and resources to under-served communities. Guests also voted for the 2012 Changemaker of the Year and their collective contributions funded two grants to Generation Hope ($1,000) and Points of Change Street &amp; Jail Ministry!</span></p>

		<description><![CDATA[On Election Day, seight Young Philanthropists (YP) knoc [&#8230;]]]></description>
				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #008000;">On Election Day, seight Young Philanthropists (YP) knocked on 250 doors in Ward 8 and informed voters of their voting rights, informed them of their polling locations and offered voters&#8217; rides to the polls! It Was Powerful: One 18 year-old young man, who Nicholas Gourdine (YP) gave a ride to. voted for the first time. During his ride, Nick also connected him with his first job opportunity. Also, YPs &#8211; Jamila Rivers and Coretta Gray &#8211; informed a former felon that he would get his wish of voting for his candidate of choice because the District allowed former felons who had served their time and probation to vote. They drove him to the polls and waited until he was registered and cast his ballot!</span></p>

		<description><![CDATA[15 Young Philanthropists volunteered to support &#8220; [&#8230;]]]></description>
				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="color: #008000;">15 Young Philanthropists volunteered to support &#8220;day-of&#8221; logistics planning for the AIDS Walk Washington! Together they cheered walkers, handed out water and assisted with clean-up. Their efforts supported the Whitman-Walker Clinic (organizers of the AIDS Walk) raise $1 million dollars by effectively engaging donors. This event aligned with Capital Cause&#8217;s effort to support our Campaign to Fight Poverty in 2012 in the DC Metro area!</span></p>
