RECAP: Young Philanthropist Dinner | 09.17.13
On September 17, 2013, Capital Cause kicked off its first monthly Capital Cause Young Philanthropist dinner! The event welcomed and engaged nearly 30 guests in conversation about philanthropy in a “no bougie” allowed atmosphere.
Our guest from Ashoka Youth Ventures, Vipin Thek, dressed in denim and fresh from a yoga session, challenged CC Young Philanthropists to define changemaking in the context of our background. According to Thek, our childhood directly influences our fears, our desires, our motivations and our ability to own Changemaking as a universal act anyone can do.
Here are a few quotes from the night:
- “Most of our insecurities are shaped in childhood, solidified as young adults, and passed on to our children when we become parents. We must confront and change the insecurities in ourselves, before we can effectively change them in someone else – especially children.” – Vipin Thek
- “Most people give credit to the leader only, but how far can a leader go without a support system. We have to value supporters too.” – Darla Bunting
- “Don’t let your fear of tomorrow stop you from getting started today. You are the change you want to see!” – Jide Gamu
We hope to see you at our next one taking place, Tuesday, October 15, 2013, from 7:00pm – 9:00pm! The topic is “The Giving Game: Jack v. Jill.” Food is on us, drinks are on you!
