#CCPipelineProject: 25 Young Philanthropist Volunteer to Become Pen Pals for US Dream Academy Youth

On Saturday, September 28, 2013, 25 Capital Cause Young Philanthropists met to design pen pal binder and write personal notes to 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who were interested in learning about giving back!  The program these CC YPs participated in is called the Capital Cause Pipeline Project, and its designed to directly connected DC’s young philanthropists to children who are used to being the beneficiaries of gifts versus the benefactors.  All youth participating in the program reside in DC’s Ward 8 and live in a home where at least one parent has been or is incarcerated.

“The goal of Capital Cause’ Pipeline Project is to connect the today’s young philanthropists, with tomorrow’s young philanthropist!  Capital Cause main goal is to revolutionize giving and build a new generation of donors committed to giving back.  However, we can’t do this is we don’t focus on the new generation and the next generation.  For that reason, I’m absolutely elated that the kickoff this is cornerstone program attracted 25 of DC area’s best and brightest Changemakers.  I know they will make a big difference,” said Kezia M. Williams, Capital Cause Chair.

During the volunteer day, young philanthropists were paired with their elementary school pan pal.  To further solidify the relationship, the children wrote letters to their pen pals and took photos to share with them.   Some of the responses provided by children to their pen pals,  included listing their favorite colors as red, blue, green and blood.  Some responses for greatest fears included scary movies, vegetables and murder.  The responses represent the honest opinion’s of children, and the realities of living in DC’s Ward 8 – DC’s most poverty-stricken area.

In future months, young philanthropists may receive a chance to meet their pen pal in person as the program seeks to do more direct-service giving.
