RECAP: Young Philanthropist Dinner | 10.15.2013
Capital Cause hosted our monthly Young Philanthropist Dinner on October 13, 2013. The dinner was entitled The Giving Game: Jack v. Jill! Young Philanthropists explored the beginnings of a complex topic – how men and women give philanthropically to causes they support! Your presence and your input shed light on gender-based philanthropy, and created a space for attendees to begin learning how to bridge the sex gap.
We had over 55 people attend and have now raised over $250 to support Capital Cause Pipeline Project benefiting youth whose parents are (or have been) incarcerated. Our goal is $2,000.
Here were a few takeaways from last night’s discussion:
- “I don’t look at male v female. I just want to be able to get the job done.” - Jill Attendee
- “I am not giving to impress anyone. I am giving because I want to make a difference.”- Jill Attendee
- “The C shouldn’t be competition. The C should be collaborate. Men and women should not compete when giving back but should work together to create change.” – Jill Attendee
- “We are all family, and if we look at it from that perspective it may change how we look at giving.” – Jack Attendee
- “We cannot hold people to our own standards of financial or capacity expectations.” - Jack Attendee
