#CCPipelineProject: 20 Young Philanthropists Help Youth Overcome Fear
On October 26, 2013, nearly 20 CC Young Philanthropists helped 3rd, 4th and 5th graders who are part of the US Dream Academy overcome fear by engaging in games and interactive activities that positioned them to “conquer” their greatest worries.
The US Dream Academy serves youth whose parents have been incarcerated. Capital Cause has partnered with US Dream Academy to teach these youth about philanthropy. Capital Cause believes this is important because most youth enrolled in the US Dream Academy reside in DC’s poorest Ward 8, and are used to being beneficiaries of charity versus benefactors.
During Saturday’s activity, children mentioned their fear of dancing on stage at church, while others said their fear was getting murdered at home. Young Philanthropist activities brainstormed to kids cope this included: (a) making fear-conquering comic strips where they prevailed over fear and (b) punching an air-filled bag that represented their fear. Three teams of Young Philanthropists successfully brainstormed six activities to serve 40 youth who have fear issues.
