2013 DC Area Millennial Giving Infographic

On September 26, 2013, Capital Cause launched the 2013 Millennial Giving Survey to determine the philanthropic habits of 18-35 year olds.  After three weeks, the online survey closed with 182 unique respondents providing information about they volunteer and/or engage in financial giving; most respondents resided in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

The survey was distributed to the Capital Cause list serv and affiliated networks.  Respondents were offered incentives for completion, including a chance to win free Capital Cause membership (one possible winner) or a free Capital Cause T-shirt (five possible recipients).

Highlights from the survey include:

  • 81% of respondents consider themselves Young Philanthropists
  • 71% would like to give time and money to organizations or causes they care about
  • 49% find pro-bono and skill-based volunteering enjoyable
  • Most (147 of 182) have fundraised through an event
